Hair Tips

how to wash hairFor your hair to look it’s best we recommend cleansing your hair no more than twice a week.  Your scalp produces oil to protect from the drying elements such as: sun and wind.  This oil is the best conditioner on the planet.  By washing frequently you remove this oil which causes your body to produces twice as much oil to replace what you remove on a regular basis.

Most people do not have oily hair; they simply over wash which makes the hair dull, brittle, and lifeless.  By only cleansing your hair twice a week these natural oils act as a conditioner and give your hair body and shine.  Plus, you save time and money by not using your products frequently.  As an added bonus your hair color will not fade as quickly.  Hats off to dirty hair!

Basics

Hair is weakest when wet.  To prevent breakage do not tug, pull or ruff up hair while shampooing and conditioning.  .

While shampooing, never use hot water to wet your hair.  This will damage the hair shaft.  Instead, use lukewarm water.  Apply shampoo to just the scalp and let the suds flow to the ends.

SHAMPOO

1.Brush (not comb) out tangles prior to washing
2. Wet Hair - Use warm water, helps open the cuticle (outside layer of hair) and aids in removal of dirt and oil.

3. Apply Shampoo - Apply evenly to scalp only. Use gentle downward strokes with fingertips.

4. Rinse - With warm water using fingertips while rinsing to lift hair away from scalp.

CONDITION

1. Squeeze out excess water

2. Use a quarter size amount

3. Rub hands together

4. Apply to midshaft and ends, stay away from the scalp.  Scalp hair is brand new and should not be your focus.

5. Use vent brush or fingertips to detangle hair, working from the ends towards the scalp.  Leave on up to 10 minutes.  For best results use shower cap.

RINSE

Use lukewarm or ideally COOL water to close the cuticle and add shine to your hair. Cool water will also lock in moisture and discourage your hair from secreting too much oil.

COMB OUT

1. Twist hair up in a towel in order to remove excess water.  Leave towel on hair for a few minutes.

2. Take care not to rub your hair dry with towel.   Friction from towel will make the hair brittle and weak.  Instead blot moisture out of hair with towel.

3. Brush out tangles by using a vent or paddle brush.   To detangle hair start at the ends and work towards the scalp.  Do not use a comb or bristle brush.  They pull and tug, creating broken and split ends.

4. Once detangled, fluff hair out with fingers.

BLOW DRYING TIPS

Work smarter, not harder.  Let hair air dry so it is not too wet or still dripping.

Remove remaining moisture by moving the blow dryer constantly around the head.  Protect the outer layer from drying too fast by bending your head upside down or leaning to the side.   Stop when hair is still slightly moist.

Always use an air concentrator (triangle attachment for the end of blow dryer nozzle) to direct the heat when using a paddle or round brush.  For smoothing and styling the hair,  proper direction of blow dryer is key.  The air flow from the dryer needs to be directed down the hair shaft from the roots to the ends.  To achieve this, elevate the nozzle of the blow dryer above your head.  Lean your head to the side to make it easier on the arms.

It is best to divide hair into manageable sections, 2-4 inches wide.  Start approximately 1 inch above ear and take a diagonal section from front hair line to nape.  Clip the rest of the hair out of the way.  Dry this section by pulling it straight out from the head.  Continue working up the head shape.  Stop when you get to the top and complete the other side.  The top section should be lifted away from the scalp and either blow dried forward, back or to the side..
